"We have the dynamism and high energy environment that is a hallmark of any successful startup."

Sumit BajajSumit Bajaj, Senior Manager
NIT Jamshedpur, IIM Kozhikode

What is the Mu Sigma environment like?

Despite nearly quadrupling in headcount since I joined Mu Sigma in early 2008, we have still managed to retain the dynamism and high energy environment that is a hallmark of any successful startup. I enjoy working with some of the smartest minds who truly believe in the ability of numbers and technology to shape the future of decision making in the business world.

Tell us what led you to Mu Sigma and how your career has progressed so far?

I joined Mu Sigma from a consulting background looking for more autonomy and learning opportunities. I started out as a Manager leading a six-member team. In less than 18 months I was leading a 50+ member account and had moved to the next level of the organizational hierarchy. The last three years in Mu Sigma have been a great learning experience and I feel glad to have been able to make a difference.

What has been the biggest surprise in working at Mu Sigma?

The almost fanatical stress on open and direct communication irrespective of the hierarchy was somewhat of a surprise for me. I believe it is one of the many "right" things we have done that have got us to where we are today.

What do you like to do outside Mu Sigma?

I am a film connoisseur and try to catch up on good cinema in my leisure time. I used to go on long rides and camping on my motorbike earlier and have been to some of the remotest parts of the country. That is something I would like to resume.
